We have a DEM 9.9 environment which has been neglected for some time. I am reviewing the procedure for upgrading to v2312, looking at the Upgrade Path for the product it suggests I cannot go from 9.9 directly to 2312, but it's not clear how/why that is.

Given it's an agent, management console and ADMX templates, surely a clean install of the management console v2312, the latest agent in the image and then overwriting the existing ADMX templates in the sysvol store will work, or do I have to in-place upgrade the Management console to v2106, then 2303, then 2312 first?

Any guidance on this would be appreciated as it seems that v2103 introduced changes to the flexengine.exe service which were significant, but the official guidance suggests you just perform a fresh installation, and seemingly ignore the upgrade path?

Hello,

Yes, it is possible to upgrade from DEM 9.9 to DEM 2312 (directly, or via an intermediate version) or uninstall&reinstall. Just take into consideration that you must upgrade FlexEngine, the Management Console, and the ADMX templates in the given order.

The most important thing is that you do not create or edit a config file with a new Management Console until all Management Consoles and agents have been updated. Everything is backwards compatible, but there is no guarantee that old versions can deal with new config files.

Thank you for clarifying. From your response, it sounds like we can safely upgrade agent from 9.9 >2312, then Management console and ADMX (at the same time) from 9.9 > 2312 , with no intermediate steps, so we will proceed on that basis and note the caveat to ensure we don't edit any config files until everything is upgraded. Much appreciated!
