We're seeing an issue here where we have physical machines with Horizon Agent installed on them and for most cases, users can remote connect to these fine, but if a user attempts to connect to their computer with an iPad and the latest version of the Horizon Client for it installed, the connection will fails. We are able to confirm it works for users connecting from another Windows or Apple computer with the Horizon Client. I have a ticket open with Omnissa, but I'm trying to see if anyone else is having this issue and how you're resolving it.

Horizon 2406

Horizon Client 8.12.0 for iPad

Horizon Agent 8.9 and 8.13 both have been tried to the same result.

Hello @MDawgVM,

do you use UAG or VPN connection from iPad?  Any error?

Using UAG to connect, no VPN connection.

It'll attempt to connect for 5 or 10 minutes and then just say the session disconnected. Works fine if you do it from a Windows or MacOS computer though.

So a couple of followup questions on this.

Has it ever worked with an iPad?  Did it work with previous versions of Horizon and something change recently like upgrading to 2406 or upgrading/changing your UAGs?

Or is this a completely new thing you're doing and it doesn't work on the iPad?

How many users are impacted by this? Is this a test user or a 1-off? Is it happening to specific users connecting to specific machines in a larger pool, or does this happen to anyone trying to use connect to their machines with an iPad?

Does it work if you connect to Horizon and that desktop from an iPad on your local network bypassing the UAG?

It did work in the past, we upgraded to 2406 back in August, but started receiving reports recently since I don't think we had a large amount of users using an iPad for this connection previously.

We're seeing it happen to multiple users in varying locations, so it doesn't appear to be tied to anything specific. anyone connecting from an iPad with the Horizon Client seems to have the problem.

We don't really have an "on prem" option for iPads, so all of them would connect through the UAG. I may be able to have someone test that, but most of the people who deal with this are working off-site, so they wouldn't be using anything besides the UAG.

So a little follow up on this subject. I don't have a full solution yet, but receive some guidance from Omnissa support based around https://kb.omnissa.com/s/article/89193

I had to add the following item to the registry:

Registry Path     HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.\VMware Blast\Config
Registry Name     PixelProviderForceViddCapture
Registry Type     REG_SZ
Registry Value     1

Doing this let a user log in from their iPad and iPhone, but it only permits this on a new login. If you try and re-connect from a disconnected session, it will time out and not work. Logging the user out of their machine and having them connect remotely is the only resolution for this. You can even log in successfully from a disconnected session if you use the Mac or Windows client. I'm hoping there is another adjustment that can be made to clear this up.

Does anyone have any clue what the deal with the old version of Horizon Client for iOS/iPadOS is? Every other version has had an update this year, but this one has not updated since January based on the info at https://customerconnect.omnissa.com/downloads/info/slug/desktop_end_user_computing/vmware_horizon_clients/horizon_8. I'm wondering if this is tied to the problem somehow.
