Super6VCA Posted November 18 Posted November 18 Been fighting login times with horizon (in my environment) for years with not much luck. However, I am getting a little closer in the past few weeks. The issue now is that I get my desktop in about 60 seconds but m taskbar will not show up for another 60 seconds. Tried looking at different windows settings with no luck and it's getting pretty frustrating. My guess is that it's something in the Optimization tool but not sure. Anyone else have taskbar issues? Any help or comments are welcome. Thanks Thank you, Perry
Jeremy Lippert Posted November 18 Posted November 18 (edited) One thing we have always done from the beginning of the Windows 10 days is to go in on the base images and delete the Stubpath keys from the registry locations below. Originally, I want to say this helped with things like what you are seeing as well (honestly been 8+ years or so since we originally found this so can't 100% remember the exact reason) as cut login time down some. Windows 10: Delete all StubPath keys from HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components and HKLM\Software\wow6432node\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components We are still testing Windows 11 for doing the same and if it helps or not. Super6VCA Posted November 18 Author Posted November 18 Gave that one a shot and didn't do much for me. Appreciate the idea though. 1 Thank you, Perry
Guy Leech Posted November 19 Posted November 19 Run this script from ControlUp that will show timings for various sections of the logon. It needs one parameter which is the domain\username of the user to analyse - run it in elevated PowerShell where the user is logged on. https://www.controlup.com/script-library-posts/analyze-logon-duration/ 1 Regards, Guy @guyrleech
Employee Victor León Posted November 19 Employee Posted November 19 (edited) Hello, if you disable 'Profile' under 'system' optimizations in the OSOT tool, you might feel that taskbar loads faster but it will keep one of the windows 'loading' screen while it works in loading the taskbar in the background. Additionally, check this KB article. https://kb.omnissa.com/s/article/94532 Edited November 19 by Victor León
robryan Posted November 19 Posted November 19 there's a lot of additional context needed here, otherwise anything's going to be a stab in the dark... what os/version are you using for your image? what are you using for your profile solution? are you using AppVolumes (what version)? are you using FSLogix (what version/which container)? are you applying any significant gpos (aka how long does it take a physical desktop to login in this same environment)?
Guy Leech Posted November 20 Posted November 20 Did you run the ControlUp script I suggested? It is used a lot for troubleshooting slow logons. Regards, Guy @guyrleech
Niels Geursen Posted November 29 Posted November 29 We have seen the same issue. In OSOT we deselected the option under SYSTEM\Profile\ Shorten Timeout of Desktop session switch. Taskbar is now very fast, however the delay we had on the taskbar is now moved to Preparing Windows. So problem is not solved but is moved earlier in the logon process.
StephenWagner7 Posted November 29 Posted November 29 This is a very similar problem to the "Blank Screen" issue caused by Cortex XDR and Sophos Intercept-X MDR. The shorten desktop switch and removing profile optimization eliminates the blank screen, but leads to an extended "Preparing Windows" screen. 1 Stephen Wagner (President, Digitally Accurate Inc.) Guy Leech Posted November 30 Posted November 30 (edited) Did you run the ControlUp Script @Super6VCA? You don't need to be a ControlUp customer or user to run it - it's free! It's frequently used in EUC for logon troubleshooting Edited November 30 by Guy Leech Regards, Guy @guyrleech
Super6VCA Posted December 2 Author Posted December 2 I have not had a chance to run this but i am going to in the next day or so. other items need to be attended to. But thank you for the info. much appreciated. 1 Thank you, Perry
